What is the Fotomustertafel?
The German government utilizes a highly specific transparent overlay template called the Fotomustertafel (Photo Sample Board) to manually verify photos. This template has precise lines for the chin, eyes, and top of the head.
The 35x45mm Geometry
To pass the template, your photo must be exactly 35x45mm. The distance between the pupils and the bottom of the chin is strictly measured. If your head is tilted even two degrees to the left or right, you will fail the template overlay.
Contrast and Focus
Germany places immense emphasis on focus. The image must be razor-sharp. Soft focus or 'beauty mode' filters applied by modern smartphones will result in an immediate biometric failure. Turn off all AI enhancement on your phone camera before taking the picture.
